I can see tremendous sadness in her face
She has been crying
Something is not right
Nobody else really notices
As she puts her on phony smile
I try not to pry too much
But I do ask
If she's alright
She looks broken inside
No,
Shattered.
"I'm fine."
She replies
I can't tell if she wants me to go away
or she wants to tell me everything
I just keep walking with her
But she sure isn't fine
I see another face
One I know quite well
Only they look more confused
than sad
She has a limp red scarf
that hangs down from her neck
As I keep watching her
Her face turns pained
Like she has no idea
What's going or coming on
and can only think of the worst
All the little that have happened
make her paranoid
All the little clues she's found
They sit,
right there for everyone to read, upon her face
I can tell she is remembering something
A memory of her past
She will never forget
Even though she tries
She keeps on walking
walking away?
Head held high
As if nothing's wrong
Smiling
Smiling a fake smile that really doesn't matter
She smiles to the passerby's
Her friends see her when she takes her seat in class
And they try and joke with her
But she just puts that fake smile back on
She is deeply bothered...
By what?
She is trying to protect...
Who?
Herself?
That is something we will never know
and maybe she won't either
